Welcome back for Episode 33 of Speculate! The Podcast for Writers, Readers and Fans. In this episode we’re proud to present our first annual Year in Review show, in which (after wishing ourselves a very happy birthday) we discuss how the show has progressed over the past year and touch on the various episodes we released in 2011, from reviews to interviews to discussion about writing techniques and everything in between, before talking briefly about what’s on the docket in 2012. We’re very pleased with how everything has turned out so far, and most of the credit for that goes to the authors, artists and editors we’ve had the good fortune to discuss and interview…and, of course, our listeners. Thanks so much for continuing to tune into the show, and please continue to spread the word about us in 2012!

Hi guys.
Thanks for the year in review.
I think I enjoyed the trio of podcasts with Aliette the best, since with three podcasts, you were really able to go deep with her and her work, and really helped bring her work to my attention.
Thanks, Paul. We did the three- and even four-episode series for a few authors, but I’m glad you liked the ones we did with Aliette. It’s nice to be able to dig a little deeper into some works and authors. Gives us a chance to really absorb and learn, and hopefully our listeners do to.
I’ve been listening to your podcast for a few months now and I’ve enjoyed it very much. I thought I might suggest a topic (though feel free to ignore). Your shows focus upon new speculative authors and publications. What about an occasional show looking at some great influence of the past (e.g. Frank Herbert, Fritz Leiber, Michael Moorcock, or Philip K. Dick)? It would be interesting to see how much some past popular author still has a significant amount of influence on speculative fiction today and which are rather dated to us now.
Just an idea. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the kind word, James. That could be an interesting twist on some of the things we’ve been doing with the show. I’ll definitely talk to Greg about it.
